This project was both a delight and a challenge. This customer has a small lake with a dragon and several other fountains. The over flow from the lake ran down a hill side to a level area and finally to a storm drain. The constant flow of water from the lake was eroding the hill side and making both the hill side and the bottom area very boggy, hard to maintain, and a problem for insect control.
A large falls box placed at the edge of the lake is the beginning of a 230' stream. The falls box was placed in such a manner as to appear as the natural outlet of the lake. Most of the time the water from our water feature pond is recycled through the falls box into the stream and back to our pond. At those times when the lake overflows, the excess water flows into the stream and down to our pond which is connected by an overflow pipe to a storm sewer next to our pond. The stream we created, with many 6" - 12" water falls, meanders down the hillside to the water feature pond. This overflow is utilized only in the case of excess water. In the process of creating this water feature not only did we solve drainage problems and related issues, we created a wonderful landscape which attracts dragon flies, butterflies and birds.
As the landscape matures the water feature has become more of a natural element.
